Between the historic architecture, the grand staircases, the courtyard, and all of the little corners that make the library feel so special, there are so many opportunities for beautiful wedding photos.

I recently had the chance to photograph a couple getting married at the Boston Public Library, and it was such a fun experience. So, I wanted to put together a little guide for other couples who might be considering it too.

Why Get Married at the Boston Public Library?

One of my favorite things about the Boston Public Library is that you really don’t need much to make it feel special. The building itself does so much of the work.

If you love a classic Boston look, historic architecture, and something that feels elegant without needing an overly elaborate setup, it’s a beautiful option.

And from a photography perspective, there is SO much variety. You can go from romantic portraits in the courtyard to more editorial photos along the staircases and hallways, all without having to travel to several different locations.

It Doesn’t Have to Be a Huge Wedding

A Boston Public Library wedding can work beautifully for couples who want something intimate and intentional too.

You can keep things simple, celebrate with the people closest to you, take portraits around the library, and then continue the celebration somewhere else in Boston afterward.

There’s something really special about getting married in such an iconic Boston location while still making the day completely your own.

Plan Time for Photos

If you’re getting married here, definitely give yourself some time in your timeline to actually enjoy the library and take photos.

There are so many beautiful backgrounds that I wouldn’t want you to feel rushed trying to fit everything into ten minutes. I always recommend talking with your photographer ahead of time about the locations you love most so you can build them naturally into your wedding timeline.

And don’t worry if being in front of the camera isn’t really your thing. You don’t need to spend your entire wedding day posing. Some of my favorite photographs are usually the ones that happen in between — walking together, laughing, fixing your dress, holding hands, or simply taking in the fact that you just got married.
